The snow is coming! Oct. 19th, 2007 @ 07:24 am
Hey all, I survived my GRE! With flying colors, I might add. [info]bewarethesmirk, you'll be fine! (Which is what everyone told me and they were right.) If you work through the practice tests and questions the GRE people send you (or you can download the powerprep), you'll be well prepared. I also read through the essay question pools on their site and used a prep manual, Barron's Pass Key. My final scores on the GRE were the average of my scores on the practice tests. The only thing I'm worried about is the essay because I never had a practice one looked at (although I think you can) but I'll be happy with a three or four out of six on it.

I had the scores sent to UNLV, even though they don't require them for the Master's program. But I figured, what the hell, that way they will have them. The first four reports are free. (or at least included in the rip-off cost of the damn thing! Dude, even if I'd gotten 400s on both sections (very poor)I wouldn't have cancelled the scores. I couldn't afford to retake the thing!)

So, the snow is coming! Accumulation on the valley floor is predicted for Saturday afternoon. What to do with Plucky Pumpkin. ... He was not turning white, as you may recall. The other night, it hailed on him! The temperature dipped to 38* f. (3* c.) and when I went out to check on him, he had become speckled! Green and white! So he needs to stay out there in the cold in order to turn the fabulous shade of white that white moon pumpkins are known for. It's not supposed to dip below freezing, but darn close to freezing so I think he must weather this first real snow. Have no fear, I'm still collecting pictures of him and this is my vacation weekend! I will gather them up and post them. I think I'll wait for a snow picture. :-)

The problem now is what do I do with my pumpkin after I harvest him? Notice that the pumpkin has gone from an "it" to a "him." I simply can't EAT HIM!! We are harvesting the seeds though. I think he may become a decoration, as his parent was. But he's lop-sided. *giggle* So I thought, maybe I'll paint him. I just don't feel like carving a jack-o-lantern this year. I think I'm allergic to the pumpkin guts, they make me itchy. Do they make anyone else's skin itchy? (I'm also terribly allergic to grass in this way. It make me extremely itchy all over when I touch it with my bare skin. I had always assumed everyone felt this way when they were on the grass and could never figure out why people insisted on planting such an aweful plant all over their yards! Then it dawned on me (read, my brother had an allergy test when he joined the military): I'm allergic! (My brother said afterwards, "no wonder the grass is always so itchy!" And I said, "Dude! The grass is itchy for you too?! Then I turned to my friend and asked, "Is it itchy for you?" and she said, "um, no...") ... :-)

I owe 12 hours work today and tomorrow for Boss Prof. He really liked the last article I sent him on Blood Atonement. I'm trying to decide if I should stay home and read the electronic versions or if I should go out. I definitely need to go to the research center tomorrow though and read through some microfilms.

Dude, who saw Supernatural last night? Was that the funniest one ever?!

I've had a bad day. I hate today. And it started last night!

I went looking for my long-contest fic and couldn't find it. I wanted desperately to work on something positive and meaningful and fulfilling. Especially after last night's final email check. Once again, I will not be allowed to list "toys" on amazon.com this holiday season. Reason: I won't have enough customer feedback scores. I need five between September 20th and November 19th. I sell only one or two items a month and only half of the customers ever come back to leave feedback. This is so not fair! I have 100% satisfaction over two years! I have only ever screwed up one order out of about fifty, and that one was on my non-amazon.com storefront. *cries*

So for the fic. (I told you all that I was entering writing contests this fall?) I couldn't find it on my jump drive or my gaming computer's hard drive. So I pulled up the copy I thought was most recent but as I was re-reading it, I realized that it wasn't right. I had reworked the hunting scene but here it was, un-re-worked! So I bagged it and stuck in Rocky Horror Picture Show again. Sing-along fun! Then I went to bed.

Because of the heat, I did not sleep well. I tossed and turned all night and then finally fell asleep around 6 am. I woke up at 9:30 and decided to check my laptop for my long-contest fic. And it was there. So at least I didn't lose it completely.

Then I lurked around various flists and such. It was at this time, that I was informed my boss had not approved my time card... AGAIN!! GaH! Another year of absentminded professor may keel me. So I have to go pick up a paper check on Friday. This is not horrible, just annoying.

Finally, I went to work. But someone had died!! So everything was closed! And I had to stand around in 100+ heat for an hour waiting for the bus. I became dehydrated and developed a migraine before it appeared.

I came home, spilled the sugar while making my iced tea (after I'd had three glasses of water.) I decided to bag the working for the day. So I went and took a nap.

Now, I'm watching Eureka. Remember? My new fandom obsession. Are you sure no one else watches it? Do any of my new friends watch it? I love this show!

Tonight, Sheriff Carter is walking around nekkid! Sci-Fi Channel! Check it out!

Very few things will make today worse. I'm going to sit here and watch TV and work on my book.

*sigh*

Checking In Aug. 12th, 2007 @ 08:35 pm
I realized just now that I didn't do my normal Saturday update with how life was treating me. I think it's because life has been busy. I've thrown myself into not-quite-internet projects the last few days. I am putting up a fanfic archive on my website, which is something I've been planning but not doing for about a year. I also spent most of yesterday and today reworking my book before throwing it to the wolves... publishers and lit agents.

I did manage to post sign-ups for Immeritus' Murder Party. We are in need of one more player. I suppose if no one else signs up I'll take it. I like having the distraction of role-playing.

That really is all that is happening.
